Boxing Workouts

Boxing and the training that goes along with it can easily get you in the best shape of your life.

When you see fights on T.V., all you see is two muscular looking guys (or girls) trying to kill each other. Stop right there! First of all, in boxing, your objective as a boxer is NOT to knock your opponet out. Yes, if you knock the other guy out you automatically win. However, the more common way of winning a boxing match is to land the most punches on your opponet (nothing below the belt of course).

The other aspect boxing fans (or anyone who happens to see a bout while flipping through chanels) do NOT see is the hours and hours boxers spend training. Since the main objective of boxing is to land the most punches on your opponent, boxers spend much of their time in the gym working on speed. These workouts consist of many body weight exercises and quickness drills:

Body weight exercises:

-Pullups and Chinups

-Pushups

Basic fighting skills:

-Fighting

-Footwork

-Punching combinations

Quickness drills/ Basic boxing drills:

-Jump rope

-Speed Drills

-Heavy bag

-Speed bag

-Shadow boxing

-Medicine ball
