Bodybuilding With Limited Equipment

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Having not posted in a while, I thought it would be a good time to fire up the old blog again given my current situation.  This summer I am working and living in NYC.  Unfortunately I am at the office a lot, and it is easiest to get home and go to the gym in my apartment (if you can even call it a gym).  Plus gym memberships here are pricy.  With that said, let me describe the current conditions in which I am forced to workout in…

Small room with mirrors and a 20 year-old workout “all-in-one” gym.  Also, there are absolutely NO free weights.  That’s right…no dumbbells, no barbells…nada, zip, zilch!

Its been a few weeks since I have been here now, and I am getting used to the idea of the all-in-one gym, although I do miss my beloved free weights.

Today was biceps and triceps.  Here’s what I did:

Warmup:

Stretch
Jumprope:
2 min

Workout:

Bicep 21s: (3 sets w/ 70 lbs) – Last set I didn’t get all of the reps (I gotta admit I’m a little out of shape).
Tricep dips: (3 sets of 20)
Hammer curls: (3 sets of 10 – Pyramid of 20 – 30lbs)
Tricep pulldowns: (3 sets of pyramided 12-8 reps w/ pyramid of 60-80lbs)
Overhead triceps extensions: (3 sets of 10 – Pyramid of 30 – 50 lbs – this was kind of awkward with a cable).

Diet

Breakfast:
Woke up late so all I had was an apple, and then some green tea and a granola bar at work.

Lunch:
Skinless chicken, 3 had boiled eggs, 2 pizza rolls, 1 glass of milk, 1 glass of water, some cherry tomatoes, and some rice.

Snack:
Granola bar, water

Dinner:
Eggplant parmesan, some more chicken, pasta, potatoes, carrots, 1 glass of milk, and a bottle of water.

Protein shake after workout.

*Throughout the day, I also try to drink water whenever I feel thirsty.  I weigh about 180 lbs, so it is recommended that I drink a little under one gallon of water per day.  I just recommend to drink water whenever you can.

So that’s what I did today.  I’m still getting used to the “all cable” workout, but maybe it will turn out to be some kind of revolutionary bodybuilding technique (ya right!).
